While the traditional use for console tables has been a tabletop with a little extra storage space underneath in the living room of foyer, there are other ways to use them.
Instead of using a console table as a typical table, why not give it a new role as an entertainment center? If you think about it, it has everything you need for an entertainment center - a tabletop where the television will sit, shelving to hold all the extra electronics, and even a drawer for storage.

Instead of being stuck with an entertainment center, that you may not like the style of, you have now opened a while new field of options for your entertainment center by adding console tables into the mix.
There are admittedly some limitations to console tables, as well as things you need to look for in them to make sure they will do the trick. First measure your television. If you have a flat screen, you only need to measure the width of the set to see if it will fit on the table. If you have a deeper television set, the depth of the tabletop may also come into play.
You should also make sure you are looking at the ones that can handle the weight of the television you are planning to put on top of them. Check the construction of the legs and surface spaces on the tables to see if they can support the items you are going to put on top of them.
Consider the number of electronics add-ons you are going to want to have near your TV. If you have a lot of them you will want to make sure you have enough shelving to hold all the pieces. Again, check the construction of the shelves to make sure they will be able to hold up to the weight of the components you want to put on their tops.
If you are going to wall mount your TV, you have just opened up a whole new world of how your they can be used. In this setup, the table would be put right below the television. On the tabletop could be a DVD player or your stereo components. Underneath you can put the speakers, or extra components that you need a space for. This arrangement should allow you to spread out your components and give them room, which will also keep them from getting too hot, as they can when they are all stacked together.
Finally, don't forget to look at drawers as you consider console tables. There is usually a top drawer just below the tabletop. This is an important space where you can put DVD cases, remotes, TV guides and any other things you need near the television, but don't necessary need to have spread all over the countertop where the TV is. Having the drawer offers a much cleaner and neater look, while not having to give up convenience of having things close at hand.

This is a very substantial mount with Dual arms and heavy guage steel. The arms extend over 20-Inch from the wall yet fold to less than 5-Inch. Even at full extension, this mount has very little sag or twist. It is rated for up to 165lbs and most displays 55-Inch and smaller weigh under 100lbs. The unit has dual tilt adjustment knobs and it will tilt forward or back 15 degrees. Thus, the arms may be visible on the sides of 32-Inch units. The universal design will fit any display with a hole pattern up to 26.3-Inch wide and 18-Inch tall.
